Mehndi / Henna is a dye procured from a tree Lawsonia leaves. It is dried and mixed with boiling water. The leaves of the tree are gathered green and are placed in the shade to dry gradually. Henna powder is made by pounding off henna leaves. Henna artist makes paste by adding water, and sometime eucalyptus oil, to make Henna paste. 

Henna is then filled in ‘Henna cone’ and applied on hands, and feet, to create beautiful henna design. Art of henna designing practiced for several centuries. It is an ancient form of body art which is believed to be originated from the Asia region.

 Henna design turns dark brown or reddish brown when it dries. One should apply lemon sugar solution on design, after half-an-hour or so, to seal the design. For best results, let dried henna fall of your hand and keep your hands away from water for at least 6-8 hours. Henna design generally lasts 1-2 weeks.
